Please Clear Snow from Fire Hydrants
Tue. Jan 5th 2010

With the recent heavy snowfall, fire hydrants in the Town of Granby have been buried or covered with snow.

Fire officials are asking people not to bury the hydrants on their property as they shovel or plow out their driveways.

Fire officials are asking if everyone can help dig out their hydrant, it will help them in case of an emergency.

"If people know where their fire hydrant is and they have the ability to go and scoop it out, we ask for at least three feet around the hydrant and if they can, access to a little path to the street", said Shane Laws, GCFD Chief.

A cleared hydrant makes for a much quicker water supply during a fire emergency.   A buried or frozen hydrant could take several minutes to locate and dig out before it is ready for use.
